Can We Be Both Valley City and Liverpool Township?
Sure can. And we are!
Liverpool is a 5 mile square township, under the governmental authority of Trustees, according to Ohio law.
Valley City is the Post Office name.
The two are almost the same. Except at the borders. Sometimes the postal routes extend into surrounding townships. Sometimes they do not quite cover each address in the township. Most people use the names interchangeably, and for most purposes they are.

Liverpool Township is a semi-rural community located in Medina County in Northeast Ohio. It was originally settled in 1810 as Township 4 in Range XV of the Connecticut Western Reserve. It was the first permanent settlement in Medina County. In 1816 it was formally established as Liverpool Township. The Post Office name was changed to Valley City in 1910 to distinguish it from East Liverpool, Ohio. The population is growing rapidly, and is reported by the Year 2000 Census as 4329. The remaining farmland is rapidly being converted to housing. Valley City is home to Medina County’s largest industrial park of over 900 acres. Census information is available from the Medina County Planning Commission.

Township Government:
The Township government consists of three elected Trustees and an elected Township Clerk, plus various appointed positions. Offices are in the Community Center, 6801 School Street, Valley City.

Oh, and for those of you who are interested: a Township government does not have power to collect personal income tax. That includes Liverpool.

Schools:
Liverpool Township is part of Buckeye Local School District, comprised of Litchfield, York, and Liverpool Elementaries, Buckeye Junior High, and Buckeye Senior High. The current enrollment collectively is approximately 2,300 students. A major school construction project has recently been completed. The old Liverpool Elementary school was recently purchased by Township Trustees to be developed into a Community Center. Police:
Liverpool Township has a part time police department, supported by a one mill operating levy. The Medina County Sheriff’s office is also available at all times.

Fire & Rescue:
The Township Fire Department currently consists of about 50 members who handle both fire and rescue calls. The Department now features paid full and part time staffing coverage to provide better service during daytime hours.
